Hemo Rage Pre Workout Is Back Again! (Review and Breakdown)
What is Hemo Rage Pre Workout | Hemo Rage Black UC Formula | Hemo Rage Underground Formula | Hemo Rage Unleased Formula | What To Expect | Similar To Hemo Rage | Which Should You Try | Warnings And Side Effects | Disclaimer
Nutrex is bringing back their famous pre workout, Hemo Rage with an all new formula to help you kill it in the gym. Many times when product is reformulated, it’s leaves us wanting more and missing old formula. After-all, why fix what isn’t broken, right? But, sometimes a new formula comes out of the dark and sweeps us off our feet. In this post, we’ll be diving into the new Hemo Rage Unleashed formula and comparing it to the previous versions.
What is Hemo Rage Pre Workout?
Hemo Rage Pre Workout from Nutrex Research is a classic pre workout that became a staple in many gym goers supplement stack. Unfortunately, like many popular pre workouts, Hemo Rage underwent formula changes. The OG formula, Black Ultra Concentrate, was like a secret treasure for intense energy, incredible pumps, and laser-like focus.† It was then reformulated to Hemo Rage Underground, another stim-heavy pre workout. Now, we have the Unleashed formula!
Hemo Rage Black Ultra Concentrate Formula:
When Hemo Rage Black got it’s new look, a new formula came with. And unfortunately this included the removal DMAA. But, the new formula was still a stim-pack pre workout. However, the formula then and now is a proprietary blend of ingredients. So we aren’t able to identify how much of each ingredient is in the formula. All together, there is 5.2g of active ingredient in this formula.
Betaine Anhydrous:
Our first ingredient is Betaine Anhydrous. This ingredient can help promote better pumps and endurance. It’s a naturally occurring amino acid coming from Beet Extract. This ingredient have a variety of benefits from anti-inflammatory properties to improving body composition and muscular performance. (1,2)
Taurine:
Our next ingredient, Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid. Meaning, your body can produce this amino acid, but there are times you may need to supplement it. Taurine plays a role in many bodily functions like maintaining hydration, digestion, supporting central nervous system (CNS) functions, and even may aid in regulating your immune system.(3) For the gym, Taurine may aid in protecting muscles from cell damage and oxidative stress, while also removing waste products that lead to muscle fatigue. (4)
Beta Alanine:
The next ingredient is Beta Alanine, which is one of the most popular ingredients in pre workouts. This ingredient is infamous for causing an itchy-tingling sensation with pre workouts (paranesthesia).(5) This ingredient can help reduce muscle fatigue and improve work capacity by increasing carnosine levels. Carnosine can act as a buffer against muscle acidosis. This action reduces muscle acidity (the burn) during high-intensity exercises, which can help you push further. (6)
Agmatine Sulfate:
Agmatine is a metabolite of to Arginine that acts similar to betaine. Current research suggests it may promote nitric oxide (NO) synthesis better than arginine, as well as properly regulate cellular energy. This makes agmatine sulfate a popular pump-inducing ingredient, but further research is needed on this ingredient (7,8)
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine:
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NAT) may be a more bioavailable form of L-Tyrosine that can support cognitive processes like focus. However, NAT may not convert to Tyrosine very well. Yet, with the addition of other focus NAT can be a great addition to the formula.(9)
DMAE:
Similarly, DMAE helps to promote improvements in cognitive functions. That means improving focus/concentration and some more mood boosting effects. (10,11)
L-Theanine:
Following DMAE is L-theanine. Interestingly, this is not a common ingredient in pre workouts. Theanine is an anti-stress amino acid, often recognized for its “relaxation without sedation” effect. But, there may be a synergistic effect when combined with caffeine. Research suggests that this combination may promote heightened focus, awareness, and energy. (12)
Caffeine:
Caffeine is one of the most popular stimulants available. This Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant can help promote energy, focus, and mood and even support weight loss.(13) But it’s important to understand where you fall in line with your tolerance to caffeine to avoid negative side effects like jitteriness. (14)
DiCaffeine Malate:
This ingredient may help improve the energy duration of a pre workout. But, the research on these ingredients is limited.†
Hordenine HCL:
Hordenine is similar in chemical structure to Synephrine. Because of this, they may work similarly by promoting energy, mood, and even thermogenesis.(15)
TheaCrine:
Theacrine is another energy source from this pre workout that may provide a smooth energy boost without jitters while promoting mental clarity and mood.(16)
N-Coumaroyldopamine:
This is a new ingredient emerging in the supplement world. N-Coumaroyldopamine is a plant chemical found in cocoa. It is a beta-2 agonist compound similar to clenbuterol but without any side effects. This is an ingredient that helps with lean muscle gains and fat loss.†
Rauwolfia Vomitoria:
Rauwolfia Vomitoria, also known as Alpha yohimbine or Rauwolscine, may be a stronger version of the popular fat burner ingredient yohimbine.† Where yohimbine is a stimulant and an alpha-2 antagonist, meaning it can stimulates adrenaline and noradrenaline receptors. This action can suppress appetite, improve energy and focus, and mobilize fat. (17, 18)
Hemo Rage Underground Formula:
The first important thing to note with this formula is that the Canadian formula is depicted in this image (and on the product page). So other variations of Hemo Rage Underground were available prior to being discontinued. In comparison to Hemo Rage Black UC, there are seven (7) ingredients shared:
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Taurine
- Beta Alanine
- NAT
- Caffeine
- L-Theanine
- Theacrine
This left only 2 different ingredient, Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Choline Bitartrate. The other difference in the formula is ingredient dosage enough. In other version of Hemo Rage, including other Underground version, this information may not be available.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine:
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is a popular focus-ingredient for pre workouts. This is because of it’s neuroprotective properties and ability to cross the blood-brain-barrier. (19,20)
Choline Bitartrate:
Choline bitartrate is our first focus enhancer in Godzilla Pre Workout. There are a bunch of cognitive benefits from choline. It also plays a role in cell structure, cellular messaging, fat transport and metabolism, DNA synthesis and nervous system maintenance. These functions support brain health and can support improved brain functions like memory and focus (21).
Hemo Rage Unleashed Formula:
Finally, we arrive at the newly available Hemo Rage Unleashed! This formula again is in a proprietary blend, but Nutrex has disclosed that there is 400mg of caffeine in this formula. So this is definitely not a beginner friendly pre workout. Compared to the other versions of Hemo Rage, this version shares six (6) ingredients:
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Taurine
- NAT
- Caffeine
- Theacrine
- Rauwolfia
This leaves three (3) new ingredients to the formula, L-Citrulline, Alpha GPC, and BioPerine®.
L-Citrulline:
L-Citrulline is a nonessential amino acid that can increase arginine, the primary substrate for nitric oxide biosynthesis. Unlike arginine supplementation, citrulline isn’t taken up by the liver. Instead, it is transported to the kidneys and broken down to arginine.(22) Additionally, citrulline can help stimulate protein synthesis in skeletal muscle. But citrulline is most commonly known for improving vascular function through increased L-arginine bioavailability and nitric oxide synthesis, which can support reducing blood pressure. (23,24)
AlphaSize® Alpha GPC:
Alpha GPC is another ingredient for improving cognitive processes like memory and attention. (25)
BioPerine®:
Finally, we have Bioperine® an ingredient for improving absorption and availability of the other ingredients in this formula. (26)
How To Take Hemo Rage Unleashed:
The manufacturer recommends mixing on (1) level scoop into 8oz of cold water and consume 30 minutes prior to working out. Use only 1 serving in a 24-hour period. Never exceed 1 scoop. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Store bottle in a cool dry place.
Hemo Rage Unleashed Review By Rich: “I was so excited to see this pre workout back and purchased it immediately. In my opinion it hits as hard as the Hemo Rage Underground did way back when. I love the energy I get from this pre workout and look forward to using it again for me next workout.”
What To Expect:
This is a solid high-stim pre workout. The addition of L-theanine may help prevent a crash from the 400mg of caffeine in each serving. You’ll likely want to start with half a scoop or less first to assess your tolerance. Though because the grams per servings are low, we don’t expect Hemo Rage Unleashed to be a great endurance/performance pre workout. To get more of these effects before the gym, you may want to consider stacking with Niox or another non-stim pump product.†
Compared to the other versions of Hemo Rage, this version is a perfect blend of both complexes with more of a focus on improving focus. If you’ve tried other focus/nootropic pre workouts like BAMF, this might be a good option to cycle with. †
Similar To Hemo Rage Unleashed:
In this section, we’ll be comparing the newest Hemo Rage Pre Workout with other popular pre workouts!
- Glaxon Specimen Yoyo Pre Workout
- Blackstone Labs Dust Reloaded
- Repp Sports Broken Arrow
- Nutrex Research Outlift Amped
Glaxon Specimen Yoyo Pre Workout:
Our first product comparison is between Hemo Rage Unleashed and Specimen Yoyo Pre Workout from Glaxon. One of the first things to note is the fully disclosed label, which allows us to compare individual ingredients.
However, because Hemo Rage Unleashed features a proprietary blend, we will only be able to compare the total active ingredients. In Specimen Yoyo one serving (2 scoops) features about 15g of active ingredient. Contrastingly, Hemo Rage only features about 6g. Yet, Hemo Rage does feature more servings per container (30 compared to 21).
In all, there are four (4) ingredients that are directly shared between these pre workouts:
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Taurine
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- Rauwolfia
But, within the Cholinace™ blend, there is also Alpha GPC. Finally, We also see a version of tyrosine in Specimen Yoyo as L-Tyrosine compared to NAT.
This leaves:
- Beta Alanine
- Betaine Nitrate
- Astrolyte™ Electrolyte Blend
- Yerba Santa Extract
- L-Theanine
- Halostachys Caspica Extract
- Yohimbe
Of these remaining ingredients, Beta Alanine and L-Theanine where described in previous formulas of Hemo Rage.
Betaine Nitrate:
The first different ingredient is Betaine Nitrate. When comparing this to betaine anhydrous, the main functions will be the same. But, the additional nitrates may improve the availability of the Betaine. However, more research is necessary to understand which ingredient is better for training.†
Astrolyte™ Electrolyte Blend:
Within Specimen’s electrolyte blend, you can find a combination of mineral salts and sugar to support hydration and improve electrolyte balance.(27,28,29,30)
Yerba Santa Extract:
The next ingredient is Yerba Santa Extract. This ingredient has potent neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, and may support reducing body weight and body fat. (31,32)
Halostachys Caspica Extract:
This next ingredient isn’t very common in pre workout. Halostachys Caspica Extract is a plant extract that may increase energy, boost focus, and supports fat burning.†
Yohimbe:
Finally, our last ingredient, Yohimbe. Yohimbe is similar to Rauwolfia in function, but the effect may not be as strong.†
How To Take Glaxon Specimen Yoyo:
The manufacturer recommends to take one (1) scoop or two (2) scoops with 16oz (500mL) of water about 30-45 minutes prior to exercise.
Specimen Yoyo Review By Sarah: “This is my first time trying Glaxon supplements and I was impressed by this product. The pre workout is great for my long hikes and gyms hits. I love the addition of electrolytes and the energy I get from this pre workout. I think the flavor is really good too. Would recommend!”
Blackstone Labs Dust Reloaded:
Next, we have Blackstone Lab’s Dust Reloaded versus Hemo Rage Unleashed. Comparing the active ingredient in these formulas, Dust Reloaded has around 11.1g per serving compared to Hemo Rage’s 6g. Even still, there are more servings in Hemo Rage Unleashed (30 to 25).
When comparing the individual ingredients, Dust Reloaded shares around six ingredients with Hemo Rage:
- L-Citrulline
- Taurine
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- Yohimbine HCl (Rauwolfia)
This leaves six other ingredients:
- Beta Alanine
- Nitrosigine
- Beta-Phenylethylamine HCl
- L-Norvaline
- DiCaffeine Malate
- Stearoyl Vanillylamide
Here, the Beta Alanine and DiCaffeine Malate were featured in other forms of Hemo Rage.
Nitrosigine:
Nitrosigine is an inositol-stabilized, arginine silicate. Research indicates that it may promote the increase of arginine, silicon, and nitric oxide production. This can assist with improving endurance and may promote better recovery. Interestingly, research on Nitrosigine also is diving into cognitive function. Studies indicate it may aid in improving the ability to perform complex cognitive tests requiring mental flexibility, processing speed, and executive functioning. (33)
Beta-Phenylethylamine HCL:
Beta-Phenylethylamine HCL or PEA is a natural stimulant our bodies produce to serve several important functions. These functions can include supporting the regulation of our mood. Like most stimulants, PEA produces increased mood, focus, and energy. But what makes PEA special is how it can stimulate the production of endorphins, commonly known as your ‘feel-good’ hormone. (34,35)
L-Norvaline:
L-Norvaline is a form of the amino acid L-Valine, which may aid in improving circulation and nitric oxide levels. This increase in circulation may assist with the pump and endurance-boosting effects from Dust Reloaded. (36)
Stearoyl Vanillylamide:
Stearoyl Vanillylamide is an analog of Capsaicin, a compound in various species of hot pepper that is primarily responsible for the spiciness. Like Capsaicin, Stearoyl Vanillylamide can help boost your metabolism and suppress your appetite while also providing some thermogenic effects.†
How To Take Blackstone Lab’s Dust Reloaded:
Blackstone Labs recommends mixing one (1) scoop in 8-10 oz. of water 30 minutes before workout on training days or first thing in the morning on non-training days. Due to extreme potency, new users may wish to assess tolerance with one half (1/2) scoop.
Dust Reloaded Review By Sean: “Every flavor I have tried is absolutely delicious. Focus during the workouts in tunnel vision. You definitely work up more of a sweat due to the new formula and it gives great energy for longer workouts yet again Blackstone Labs has never put out a supplement that didn’t do exactly what it was engineered to do. Definitely a must try!”
Repp Sports Broken Arrow:
Our third comparison with Hemo Rage Unleashed is with Repp Sports Broken Arrow Pre Workout. Broken Arrow features around 15g of active ingredient compared to the 6g in Hemo Rage. But, these pre workouts share the same volume of servings (30).
As for the ingredients, Broken Arrow shares seven ingredients with Hemo Rage Unleashed:
- *L-Citrulline
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Taurine
- *Tyrosine
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- Alpha GPC
- Black Pepper Extract
This leaves:
- Beta Alanine
- Caffeine Citrate
- Citrafuze Blend
- Theobroma Cacao Extract
Caffeine Citrate:
Caffeine Citrate is fast-acting, making it very popular in supplements for an intense rush of energy. †
CitraFuze:
This next ingredient blend is one of new additions to the formula (and one of our favorites). The CitraFuze blend contains:
- Citrus Aurantium (Synephrine & Hesperidin)
- Citrus Grandis (Naringin)
- N-ethyl-L-glutamine (Theanine)
- 2-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxy-4H-chromen-4-one (Quercetin Hydrate)
Some of these ingredients may sound familiar, but not in the context of a pre workout. With the exception of Quercetin Hydrate, the other ingredients are common in fat burners.
So why include them in Broken Arrow?
They have a mix of great properties. From energy promoting properties to relaxation promoting properties (37,38). And there are even some vasodilating properties.(39) So this blend overall is going to help with a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, we don’t know how much of each ingredient is in the blend, but in total there’s 150mg of the CitraFuze blend.
Theobroma Cacao Extract
Theobroma Cacao Extract is another stimulant source in Broken Arrow, but it doesn’t stimulate the CNS like Caffeine. It actually has medicinal purposes and is bronchodilator and vasodilator. This effect is the result of it’s stimulatory effects on smooth muscle. Some research indicates this ingredient is most effective at doses between .5-1 gram. Here, there is only 100mg. So we wouldn’t expect there to be a huge impact from this ingredient. (40,41)
How To Take Repp Sports Broken Arrow:
The manufacturer recommends assessing your tolerance by starting with mixing a half scoop with 8-10oz of water before training. Once tolerance has been assessed you may increase to one (1) level scoop before training. Do not exceed 1 serving in 24 hours. As a precautionary measure, it is recommended not to take Broken Arrow more than 3 days in a row. Repp Sports recommends taking a MINIMUM of a 2-3 day washout. To avoid sleeplessness, do not take within 6 hours of sleep.
Broken Arrow Review By Jeff: “This pre workout gave me the best pumps I have ever had! You can really tell the difference the L-Citrulline Malate makes in the pre workout. The energy and pumps are unmatched. You can’t go wrong with Broken Arrow!
Nutrex Research Outlift Amped:
Finally, we have Hemo Rage Unleashed versus Outlift Amped! Outlift Amped features the most active ingredients per serving at 22.2g, but also has the fewest servings per container at only 20. Compared to Hemo Rage, Outlift Amped shares eight ingredients:
- *Citrulline
- Betaine Anhydrous
- Taurine
- NAT
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- Theacrine
- BioPerine
- Rauwolscine
This leaves:
- Creatine Magna-Power®
- Choline Bitartrate
- Caffeine Citrate
Creatine Magna-Power®:
Creatine Magna-Power® may help increase muscle mass and strength faster than creatine monohydrate. Still, more research is necessary to support this. (42)
How To Take Outlift Amped Workout:
The manufacturers recommend shaking the container before each use. Then mix one (1) scoop into 8-12oz of cold water. Drink 30-45 minutes before working out. Limit use to 1 serving per day. Never exceed one scoop.
Customer Review By Sal: “I’m normally take pre workouts with a lot of caffeine and other stims, so this wasn’t as strong as I’m used to but overall very good. Still got an energy boost and had really good workouts. Gonna keep it in the pre workout rotation.”
Which Should You Try:
When it finally comes down to picking a pre workout for your gym hit, you should consider your workouts or training style. For example, aerobic-based performance may benefit from low to moderate doses of caffeine (3-6 mg/kg). However, higher doses of caffeine wouldn’t improve these benefits more. (43)
Nutrex Research Hemo Rage Unleashed:
Nutrex Research Hemo Rage Unleashed is a great pre workout option for individuals looking to drive their workouts with energy and focus. Unfortunately, due to the low volume of active ingredients, this pre workout isn’t likely to be great option for pump/performance. However, this does give you more opportunity for stacking with other products.†
Glaxon Specimen Yoyo Pre Workout:
Specimen Yoyo Pre Workout is a comprehensive pre workout featuring high-stims, clinically-dosed performance ingredients, and hydration aids. This pre workout may be ideal for training styles that orient around volume and performance, like powerlifting or cross fit. However, being that the serving size for Specimen Yoyo is two scoops, one scoop can be a great option for individuals newer to pre workouts. This, consequently, makes the pre workout less endurance/performance-based and more focus/energy-based.†
Blackstone Labs Dust Reloaded:
Next, we have Blackstone Labs Dust Reloaded. Similarly to Hemo Rage, this formula is more optimized for energy and focus. But, there is a higher volume of performance/endurance ingredients. These ingredients are not set at clinically proven dosages, but they still be beneficial for more aerobic style training. †
Repp Sports Broken Arrow:
Then we have Repp Sports Broken Arrow. While this pre workout doesn’t directly state its ideal for fat burning, we would throw it into fat burning category. The addition of the CitraFuze blend can support weight loss, energy, and focus. Adding in the Caffeine Citrate and Theobroma, this pre workout can pack a punch for stim-lovers. Yet, the overall formula also can promote endurance and performance. This pre workout may be ideal for individuals who prefer long-lasting energy and endurance ingredients.†
Nutrex Research Outlift Amped:
Finally, there’s Outlift Amped by Nutrex Research. This pre workout may be a great option for individuals with a moderate-to-high stimulant tolerance. As the formula features both caffeine anhydrous and caffeine citrate, the initial impact of the stimulants may be too intense for some individuals with a low-tolerance to stimulants. Additionally, the inclusion of 8g of citrulline malate and other endurance ingredients can make this a great option for individuals looking for a balanced pre workout. †
