GAT Nitraflex Pre workout Review & Breakdown
What Is NitraFlex | Original Nitraflex| Nitraflex Ingredients | Different Versions | How They Compare | Which For The Gym | Nitraflex Reviews | Similar To Nitraflex | Which Should You Try | Side Effects And Warnings | Disclaimer
Pre workouts can be a dime a dozen, so finding one that works for you may include trial and error. Luckily, there are pre workouts that have a strong reputation to back up their effectiveness. One of those pre workouts is GAT Nitraflex. But, Nitraflex isn’t alone anymore. Now, we have the Nitraflex series, which includes Nitraflex C+, Nitraflex Burn, and Nitraflex Pump.
What is GAT Nitraflex?
As we mentioned, Nitraflex is a pre workout. But, it’s not just a pre workout; it also may boost testosterone. However, this boost won’t replace a natural testosterone booster supplement or compete with a prohormone. So while it may benefit the gym, it’s unlikely to significantly change your testosterone levels. For this reason, both men and women can enjoy GAT Nitraflex.
Original Nitraflex Formula:
Nitraflex contains a classic combination of ingredients but features a proprietary blend. Meaning we won’t be able to determine the amount of each ingredient within the blend.
Niacin:
Niacin (Vitamin B3) is in a lot of products, from pre workouts to fat burners alike. Why? Well, there are a ton of benefits from B-Vitamins, and for pre workouts, it may even be beneficial for improving vasodilation and reducing blood pressure. (1,2)
Vasoactive Arginase-Regulating NO Precursor Complex:
Citrulline VS Citrulline Malate:
You may have noticed that in GAT Nitraflex, there are two forms of citrulline in the formula. They both essentially do the same thing (aid in boosting vasodilation/pump). However, citrulline malate may be absorbed better than L-citrulline. (3)
This may be due to the addition of malic acid (Malate). In addition to this, malic acid may promote an increase in stamina and reduce painful inflammation. (4)
L-Arginine Malate VS L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate:
Like citrulline, there are two forms of arginine. Arginine, like citrulline, is a Nitric Oxide booster, which is what helps increase blood flow to our muscles and improves our pumps. (5)
Compared to L-arginine malate, AAKG may be absorbed better†. So, it may be better at promoting blood flow as well, but there isn’t enough research comparing these two ingredients to be definitive.
High Citrulline: Arginine Ratio
Nitraflex contains a high citrulline-to-arginine ratio. We all know arginine is a vasodilator and helps with blood flow, aka “the pump.” The disadvantage to high arginine-containing formulas is the fact that over time the body responds to high arginine levels by increasing the production of the enzyme arginase, which breaks down arginine. Citrulline is an amino acid that is closely related to arginine and is a vasodilator as well. However, it is unaffected by the enzyme Arginase. In other words, you will not be developing a tolerance to Nitraflex as quickly as you did with other pre workouts.†
Acute Energy, Focus, Intensity, Neuromodulating, Endurance Complex:
Beta Alanine:
Beta Alanine is one of the most popular ingredients in a pre workout. If you haven’t heard of beta alanine, chances are you probably felt it. Beta alanine is associated with the tingling feeling known as paranesthesia. For many pre workout users, this feeling is what indicates–it’s time to workout out. (6)
But what does beta alanine actually do? It acts as a buffer for lactic acid build up, which accumulates while we work out. Lactic acid is plagued by the burning feeling we get during our reps. However, lactic acid isn’t as bad as its reputation. It actually may aid in muscle growth and be used for cellular energy. (7)
So the addition of beta alanine aids in buffering away this feeling, allowing you to continue working out. For this reason, beta alanine is considered an endurance booster. (8,9)
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine:
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is a common ingredient found in pre workouts. It’s considered a cognitive-enhancer, which means it may improve attention, focus, memory, and even mood. And it may do so even better in individuals who are sensitive to stressors. (10)
Theanine:
Theanine, like Tyrosine, is an anti-stress amino acid, which is often acknowledged for its “relaxation without sedation” feeling. However, theanine may also have a synergistic effect when combined with caffeine. The research on these effects suggests that this combo may promote heightened focus, awareness, and, of course, energy. (11)
Resveratrol:
Resveratrol is a plant compound that acts as an antioxidant in the body. (12) There are a bunch of potential benefits from Resverstrol, such as easing joint pain, reducing blood pressure, and being neuroprotective. (13,14,15)
Pterostilbene:
Pterostilbene is another antioxidant which is similar in structure to resveratrol. (16) Meaning they may have some shared benefits. But, some researchers suggests that Pterostilbene may be better absorbed by the body†.
Caffeine:
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. When it is consumed and reaches your brain, you’ll notice the effects like energy and alertness. It also causes the brain’s blood vessels to constrict. This is due to it blocking adenosine’s ability to open them up. This is why it is sometimes referred to as a vaso-constrictor, like other stimulants. (17)
DMAE Bitartrate:
DMAE Bitartrate is another cognitive booster in GAT Nitraflex. That means it can aid in increasing focus, attention and some mood-boosting effects. (18)
Rauwolfia Canescenes:
Rauwolfia Canescenes shares similarities to Yohimbe, so it’s going to have similar benefits†. In addition to that, Rauwolfia Canescenes is used to treat hypertension. (19)
Clinically-Studied Testosterone-Enhancing Complex:
Calcium fructoborate (CFB):
Calcium fructoborate is a form of boron that could aid in naturally boosting testosterone. (20)
Creatine Free:
Depending on your goals, this may be a pro or con. Creatine definitely has its place in your supplement stack. However, it does contribute to water retention, and if you’re trying to achieve that hard-leaned-out look, creatine may temporarily leave you looking a little “softer” because of the extra water you are holding. If you are a competitive bodybuilder, this can make or break your competition.
Nitraflex Ingredients In 2021:
It happened. GAT has given Nitraflex an updated formula, and we’re here to tell you what changed and what you should expect from the new formula.
For starters, Nitraflex now discloses calories, carbs, and sodium in addition to the niacin content. Each serving of the new formula contains five calories, 1 gram of carbs, and 85mg of sodium. Next, in the prop blend, you’ll see the total volume of ingredients has been reduced. Previously, it was 7240mg for the entire blend, and now it only features 6521mg. However, there is a lot that’s the same within the formula. Most of the ingredients are the same, but because of the prop blend, we’re not sure if any dosages have changed.
GAT has disclosed that the caffeine content remains at a strong 325mg. Additionally, they removed the two versions of Citrulline (L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate) for one version of Citrulline, which they state is at a higher dosage to promote a better pump. Likewise, instead of a dual Arginine complex ( L-Arginine Malate and L-Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate), we now have Arginine Silicate Inositol as Nitrosigine. In which, Nitrosigine may improve endurance better than the duo, according to their clinical research.†
In the energy blend, the only change was Raulwolfia Canescenes to Rauwolfia Vomitoria Root Extract. These ingredients are fairly similar and may contain both yohimbine and reserpine. These will act as a stimulant and may aid in cognition as well.
Lastly, we have Nitraflex’s signature component, the testosterone-boosting ingredient. Formally, it was labeled as Calcium fructoborate (CFB), and now it’s featured as Boron Citrate at the dosage of 200mg. Previously, CFB’s dosage was not disclosed. However, GAT states that the dosage is nearly doubled.
So what should you expect?
There doesn’t seem to be an extensive difference between the old and new formula, so you shouldn’t be heartbroken knowing there are changes. One thing you will notice is that the new formula does not feature any artificial flavors or dyes. This may mean a better tasting pre workout and may reduce the effects of the aftertaste associated with artificial flavoring.
Different Versions:
As we mentioned, GAT Nitraflex comes in a couple of different versions, which is perfect for picking the right pre workout for your goals.
Nitraflex+C:
Nitraflex+C is the most similar to the OG GAT Nitraflex. The main difference is the addition of Creatine Monohydrate, but there are 2 other changes to this formula.
The ingredients that are different include:
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Yohimbe Bark Extract
- Organic Evaporated Cane Sugar Powder
Creatine:
Creatine monohydrate is a combination of 3 amino acids that are naturally occurring in the body (L-arginine, Glycine, and L-methionine). For the non-competitive bodybuilder, everyday gym-goer, etc., creatine can be a really helpful tool in your stack. What creatine does is help with ATP production, which translates to more energy to push through workouts. Creatine also helps shuttle water to cells. By hydrating cells, we increase muscle synthesis. (21)
Yohimbe Bark Extract:
As we mentioned earlier, Rauwolfia Canescenes shares a lot of similarities to Yohimbe. This includes the energy and thermogenic properties that Yohimbe is recognized for. So this ingredient isn’t that big of a change in the formula. (22)
Organic Evaporated Sugar Powder:
This version of Nitraflex also contains organic evaporated sugar powder, which will add to the flavor of these flavors. †
Nitraflex Burn:
Nitraflex also shares a lot of the same ingredients as the OG Nitraflex but with four additional ingredients to aid in weight loss.
The different ingredients include:
- L-Carnitine
- Green Tea Leaf Extract
- Cassia Bark Powder
- Cayenne Pepper
L-Carnitine:
L-Carnitine helps the body use fatty acids for energy rather than storing it. (23)
Green Tea Leaf Extract:
There is a ton of research on Green Tea’s effect on weight loss. (24)
Some of the more recognized benefits include:
- Improving your body’s efficiency at burning calories
- Improve exercise performance
- Reduce visceral (belly fat) and inflammation
Cassia Bark Powder:
Cassia Bark may prevent the stomach and intestines from absorbing dietary fat. This causes dietary fat to be excreted, which might promote weight loss in some people†. But more research is needed for this ingredient.
Cayenne Pepper:
Cayenne pepper is another spice that is commonly used in fat burners to increase thermogenesis, appetite suppression, and speed up metabolism. (25)
How To Take Nitraflex Burn:
The manufacturer recommends beginning by assessing your tolerance by mixing half a serving with 6oz of cold water. Then gradually increase to mixing one serving (one scoop) in 10oz of cold water and consume within 30 minutes before working out.
Customer Review By Devission: “I’ve been using Gat Nitraflex as my go to for a long time so I thought I would try the Burn version. The thermo is legit. I was into a steady sweat pretty quick that maintained throughout my workout” Posted on 9/3/19
Nitraflex Pump:
Nitraflex Pump is the most different out of all the versions. The most significant difference is that it’s stimulant-free.
The different ingredients include:
- HydroMax Glycerol
- Taurine
- Agmatine Sulfate
- Masson Pine Bark Extract
- L-Norvaline
HydroMax Glycerol:
Glycerol is recognized for aiding in pumps, giving your muscles a full look. But aesthetics aside, glycerol can also aid in performance. Studies suggest that supplementing with glycerol can aid in aerobic and anaerobic exercise. (25)
However, this ingredient does come with an annoying effect—it tends to increase the clumping of powdered supplements. While the clumping is generally easy to break apart and won’t affect the performance of the product, it can be frustrating.
Taurine:
Taurine is effective for promoting endurance, increasing alertness, and enhancing recovery. (26)
Agmatine Sulfate:
Agmatine is a metabolite of Arginine. Current research suggests it may promote nitric oxide (NO) synthesis better than arginine and properly regulate cellular energy. This makes agmatine sulfate a popular pump-inducing ingredient, but further research is needed on this ingredient. (27,28)
Masson Pine Bark Extract:
Research suggests Pine Extract may be effective at reducing effects related to oxidative stress. This includes muscle soreness and damage. (29)
L-Norvaline:
This is a form of the BCAA amino acid L-Valine. L-Norvaline improves circulation and nitric oxide levels, which adds to the pump you feel in the gym. (30)
How To Take Nitraflex Pump:
The manufacturer recommends mixing one (1) scoop in 10-12oz of cold water and consuming within 30 minutes before working out.
Customer Review By Hector: “Gives a great pump on it’s own. Sometimes I like to stack it with the regular nitraflex too. I would say I get a better pump from this over the pmp too.” Posted on 2/14/20
How Do They Compare:
When you review all the ingredients, it becomes clear “who” should take each version.
For example, the OG GAT Nitraflex has:
- Stimulants
- Cognitive Boosters
- Pump/Endurance Enhancers
This is the basic sum of what you want from a pre workout when you’re an everyday gym-goer with moderate to heavy tolerances to stimulants. Keep in mind that every scoop of Nitraflex contains 325mg of caffeine which is just under 4 cups of coffee.†
But, when you check out some of the formulas, you see a different focus. In Nitraflex C+, you have mostly the same ingredients as the OG Nitraflex, but with creatine. So this may be better for gym-goers that focus on high-volume training.†
Whereas Nitraflex Burn shares a bunch of similar ingredients as well but includes fat-burning ingredients. Making this version ideal for gym-goers looking to lean out and sweat more. If your workouts consist of a lot of cardio, you may want to opt for some intra-workout BCAAs to aid in maintaining hydration.†
Finally, Nitraflex Pump is ideal for late-night gym-goers and stimulant-sensitive athletes. This version of Nitraflex focuses on enhancing blood flow and endurance, so if you’re looking to add to a different pre workout and create a stack–you can with this version.†
Which Is The Best For The Gym:
When it comes to the gym, it’s going to come down to your preference and goals. As we mentioned before, stimulants are generally vaso-constrictors. Meaning they can reduce blood flow and increase blood pressure. And while we love the energy and focus we get from stimulants, they aren’t the most beneficial for muscle growth. That’s where Nitraflex Pump may have the advantage.†
Increased Endurance = More Reps, Sets, or Weight!†
By taking a pre workout with a greater ratio of ingredients that promote blood flow and endurance over stimulants, you’re likely to feel the boost in endurance more.†
Nitraflex Reviews:
Customer Review By N/A:“Pricing is great, delivery was fast and the product is top notch. I use is in a three month rotation of pre workouts and I can always tell a difference when I begin a cycle with it.” Posted on 3/9/21
Customer Review By Ariel:“For my 4 am workouts there’s nothing better. I’ve tried just about every pre-workout out there. And I end up coming back to Nitraflex. Focus, energy and pump.” Posted on 11/27/20
Customer Review By Jeffery: “Nitraflex definitely gives you that boost your looking for when you’re lifting. I take a full scoop, wait 30 minutes then take a half scoop and start warming up. Once I start living it’s F’ing go time for a good 1.5-2 hours. Only issue is it does occasionally keep me up at night a little if I take is after 4 or so.” Posted on 6/10/20
Similar To Nitraflex:
What made Nitraflex unique was the addition of the testosterone-enhancing ingredient/complex. Now in this section, we’ll be going over pre workouts that are ready to take Nitraflex’s place.
- Betancourt Nutrition B-Nox
- Insane Labs Possessed
- Insane Labs Psychotic Test
- Primeval Labs Ape Sh*t Alpha
Betancourt Nutrition B-Nox:
Our first alternative is another long-standing pre workout, B-Nox (previously Bullnox). Similarly to Nitraflex, B-Nox’s label is divided into blends. However, not only does B-Nox feature more ingredients per blend, the entire proprietary blend has more than double the volume of active ingredients (15,596mg compared to 6,521mg)
Within the five complexes in B-Nox’s formula, three ingredients are shared with Nitraflex.
- Beta Alanine
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- L-Tyrosine
But B-Nox also features four different versions of creatine:
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Dicreatine Malate
- Creatine Ethyl Ester HCl
- Creatine AKG (Alpha-ketoglutarate)
Additionally, B-Nox features:
- Glucose Polymers (Maltodextrin)
- L-Taurine
- Glucuronolactone
- Theobromine
- Beet Root Powder
- L-Glutamine
- Branched Chain Amino Acids (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine)
- N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine
- Guarana Seed Extract
- L-Histidine HCl
- Maca Root Extract
- Tribulus Extract
- Stinging Nettle Root Extract
- Coenzyme Q10
- BioPerine®
With the addition of Creatine, Glucose Polymers, and BCAAs, B-Nox may set itself above Nitraflex for muscular hydration. (31,32,33,34,35) Adding in amino acids like L-Glutamine may also kick-start recovery and reduce muscular fatigue. (36) Next, you have several sources of energy and focus, including L-Taurine, N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, Guarana Seed Extract, Glucuronolactone, and L-Histidine. (37,38,39,40,41)
Where the Beet Root Powder can be beneficial for improving blood flow and, ultimately, endurance. (42) Finally, the ingredients that compete with Nitraflex’s CFB include Maca Root Extract†, Tribulus Extract, Stinging Nettle Root Extract, and Coenzyme Q10. (43,44,45) The last ingredient in this blend, Bioperine, may help improve the bioavailability of the other ingredients, meaning you’re body may utilize the other ingredients more effectively. (46)
How To Take Betancourt Nutrition B-Nox:
The manufacturer recommends taking one (1) scoop (18.1g) thoroughly in 6oz of water and consuming it 30 minutes before workout on an empty stomach.
Customer Review By Giovani: “I like its flavor and energy” Posted on 3/3/20
Insane Labz Possessed:
First up is Possessed Pre Workout, which features 6,070mg of active ingredients compared to Nitraflex’s 6,521mg. Unlike Nitraflex, Possessed Pre Workout doesn’t separate its ingredient into distinct complexes. Instead, it’s displayed as a proprietary blend.
Within this blend, Possessed shares only three ingredients with Nitraflex:
- Beta Alanine
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- L-Tyrosine
Where the shared ingredients are identical to B-Nox. Also, like B-Nox, Possessed Pre Workout features Creatine Monohydrate. What separates Possessed from these pre workouts is the addition of the following:
- D-Aspartic Acid
- Caffeine Citrate
- Mucuna Pruriens Extract
- Choline Bitartrate
- Citicoline
- OXYGOLD™ (Fulvic Acid)
- AMPiberry® (Juniperus Communis)
Here both D-Aspartic Acid† and Mucuna Pruriens may be beneficial for improving testosterone levels. (47) Whereas Caffeine Citrate†, Choline Bitartrate, and Citicoline are more common ingredients for energy and focus. (48,49) The last two ingredients are unique to Insane Labz, and you will see them often in their formula. Similar to Bioperine, OxyGold or Fulvic Acid may aid in promoting the bioavailability of the other ingredients in the formula. (50) AMPiberry may help support the effects of the stimulants in the formula, like caffeine, promoting long-lasting energy. (51)
How To Take Insane Labs Possessed:
The manufacturer recommends taking one (1) serving in 8-10oz of water once daily, 30 minutes before activity. Never consume more than two servings in 24 hours or within 4 hours of bedtime.
Customer Review By Darryl: “Love how the focus of Possessed kicks in and for heavy lifts- this is just off the charts! Use more than intended! It’ll get you going where you want to be.” Posted on 3/22/21
Insane Labz Psychotic Test:
The formula for Psychotic Test follows the structure of B-Nox and Nitraflex by displaying its ingredients in separate complexes. However, unlike the other pre workouts, Psychotic Test indicates the volume of the active ingredients per blend. Psychotic Test’s three blends add up to ~8 grams of active ingredients.
Within these blends, four ingredients are shared with Nitraflex:
- Beta Alanine
- Caffeine Anhydrous
- DMAE Bitartrate
- Rauwolfia Vomitoria Extract
Leaving nine ingredients that are different:
- Glycerol Monostearate
- Creatine HCl
- OxyGold™ (Fulvic Acid)
- D-Aspartic Acid
- AMPitest†™ (Mucuna Pruriens Extract)
- Chlorophytum Extract
- Choline Bitartrate
- Citicoline Sodium
- AMPiberry®
However, of the nine ingredients, only one is unique to Psychotic Test, Chlorophytum Extract. This ingredient is featured in the Testosterone Matrix for Psychotic Test. According to some studies, this extract may improve serum testosterone levels. (52)
How To Take Insane Labs Psychotic Test:
The manufacturer recommends mixing one (1) scoop in 8-12oz of water 30 minutes before activity. Never consume more than two servings in 24 hours or within 4 hours of bedtime.
Customer Review By Matthew :“Love it. Its really good.” Posted on 3/29/21
Primeval Labs Ape Sh*t Alpha:
Ape Shit Alpha features a fully disclosed label containing ~3.65g of active ingredients per scoop, but you can take two scoops for a total of ~7.3 g.
Within this formula, there are two ingredients that are directly shared with Nitraflex, Beta Alanine, and Caffeine. However, there are three other ingredients that are relative to ingredients in Nitraflex:
- Grape Seed Extract
- Yohimbe Bark Extract
- Boron
The first ingredient, Grape Seed Extract, can be a great source of antioxidants and compounds such as resveratrol. (53) Next, Yohimbe Bark Extract which shares a lot of similarities with Rauwolfia Extract. (22) And lastly, Boron which is seen as bororganic glycine in Ape Shit Alpha compared to the Boron Citrate in Nitraflex. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough research on the different forms of Boron to indicate which is better. (54)
The remaining ingredients in Ape Shit Alpha are Choline Bitartrate and 3,3’-Diindolylmethane (DIM) where DIM may aid in inhibiting estrogen. (55) But, there are anecdotal associations between DIM and hair loss.
How To Take Primeval Labs ApeSh*t Alpha:
The manufacturer recommends mixing 1-2 scoops 15-20 minutes before a workout in 8-10 oz. of cold water.
Customer Review By Bryan: “Great product. I understand it wasn’t part of the product’s description but I wish it gave more pump. Other than that, great product. 5/5” Posted on 12/16/21
Which Alternative Should You Try:
Between all those options, there’s only one stand-out pre workout that shares the most similar ingredients as Nitraflex, Ape Shit Alpha. Ape Shit Alpha features a no-creatine formula that is simple and fully disclosed. While this formula shares the most similarities to Nitraflex, there are key differences, including the lack of vascular/nitric oxide-promoting ingredients. This may result in a weaker pump/endurance complex.
If that endurance complex is essential for you, B-Nox is the way to go. While only sharing three ingredients with Nitraflex, the blend overall features all the essentials for a great workout. This includes the energy, hydration, recovery, endurance, and focus complex.
Finally, if you prefer a pre workout with more of an emphasis on focus, Possessed and Psychotic Test are better suited for you. Psychotic Test features a better blend of energy, endurance, and focus ingredients. In comparison, Possessed Pre Workout features a more focus-centered formula.
