Super Pump or Super Pump Aggression: Which is better for 2024?

Gaspari Nutrition is a well-known brand in the sports supplement industry and offers a range of pre-workout supplements, including Super Pump Max and SuperPump Aggression. Both of these products are marketed to enhance energy, endurance, and focus during workouts. In this blog, we will compare SuperPump Max and Super Pump Aggression to help you determine which product may be best for your needs.

What Are They

Both Gaspari Super Pump and Super Pump Aggression are pre-workouts designed to give your workouts an extra boost. Depending on the ingredient profile, a pre workout can be better for boosting endurance, focus, strength, energy, or a combination of all. And in some special cases, pre workouts feature additional ingredients to aid in recovery or other aspects of the muscle-building process. In this review and comparison, we’re going to go over the ingredient profiles of both pre workouts and let you know which pre workout is better for what purpose and what kind of user.

Super Pump vs Super Pump Aggression: What’s The Same?

Typically, when we see a brand revamp a classic product or come out with a limited edition version, we still see some shared ingredients. In the case of Super Pump and Super Pump Aggression, we see four ingredients that are mostly shared.

This includes:

  • L-Citrulline
  • Beet Extract & Betaine Anhydrous 
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Caffeine

All four of these ingredients are common for pre workouts. Our first shared ingredient, L-Citrulline, is a nonessential amino acid that is produced by the body naturally. However, unlike other amino acids, citrulline is not used in the body for building proteins. Citrulline plays a role in improving exercise performance and widening your blood vessels, which may aid in improving muscle growth. (1,2)

Next, we have Beet Extract and Betaine Anhydrous. Now while these ingredients have different names, Betaine anhydrous is a naturally occurring amino acid coming from Beet Extract. Specifically, the beet extract in Super Pump is beta vulgaris root, which is one of the sources of betaine. (3) These ingredients have a variety of benefits, from anti-inflammatory properties to improving body composition and muscular performance. (4,5)

Our next shared ingredient is L-Tyrosine.

L-tyrosine is an amino acid that is naturally produced in the body. It’s used to make several neurotransmitters, including dopamine, hormones, including thyroid hormones. However, increasing your body’s L-tyrosine levels doesn’t necessarily translate to increasing these compounds. Rather, it may help with increasing the effects of compounds like dopamine during stressful situations. So why add it to a pre workout? Supplementing with L-tyrosine can aid in boosting alertness, attention, and focus. (6,7,8)

Finally, we have caffeine, which is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. The most pronounced effect of caffeine for most people is alertness. However, caffeine can affect your body, from your CNS to your digestive system. Something to keep in mind with caffeine is that there is a potential for side effects when you take too much. This can include confusion, tremors, irritability, heartburn, nausea, increased blood pressure, and more. In addition to that, you can build a tolerance to caffeine. Therefore, you can have withdrawal effects if you suddenly stop consuming caffeine. That’s why it’s important to cycle off caffeine to allow your body time to reset your tolerance. (9)

A lot. There are definitely more ingredients that separate the two products than there are that make them similar. In addition to the actual ingredients, there are other differences. For example, Super Pump features several blends in the formula and includes a proprietary blend for each. This means we are unable to clarify the exact amount of any ingredient in the blend. However, Super Pump Aggression discloses the values of each ingredient and does not display them in blends. Overall, Super Pump features 40 servings containing 11.3 grams of active ingredients per serving. While Super Pump Aggression features 25 servings containing around 13.3 grams of active ingredients per serving.

As we mentioned above, Super Pump features blends in its formula, so we can’t determine the exact value of each ingredient. However, the cumulative values of the individual blends are disclosed. This consists of five blends:

  • MyoVol Electro Hydration Complex
  • Nitric OxiEndurance Complex
  • Branch Chain mTOR Stimulation Blend
  • PhosphoDrive Signaling Complex
  • CogniDrive Acceleration Matrix

MyoVol Electro Hydration Complex:

  • L-Taurine
  • Calcium Glycerophosphate
  • Sodium Glycerophosphate
  • Sustamine (l-alanyl-l-glutamine)
  • Di-Magnesium Malate
  • Potassium Phosphate

Within our first blend, we have all “new” ingredients, but the value of this blend is not disclosed. Our first ingredient is L-Taurine. As you may know, Taurine is an amino acid that is naturally occurring in your body. It serves several functions, but in regards to a pre-workout, taurine may be beneficial for improving exercise performance and may aid in fat burning. As well as aid in muscle recovery. (10,11,12

Next up, we have two versions of glycerophosphate, Calcium, and Sodium, which are more bioavailable versions of phosphate. These two ingredients and potassium phosphate can help in maintaining cell hydration.† Sustamine is a combination of two amino acids, L-glutamine and L-alanine. This combination has potential protective, absorption-enhancing activities and even inhibits muscle protein catabolism (muscle breakdown). (13) Our last ingredient in this complex, Di-Magnesium Malate, which in combination with the other minerals in this complex, provides additional electrolyte support for cellular hydration. (14)


Nitric OxiEndurance Complex:

  • L-Citrulline (2 Grams)
  • L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate
  • Beet Ext. (beta vulgaris) (root)

l-Ornithine l-aspartate (LOLA) is a combination of l-ornithine and l-aspartate. When paired with L-citrulline, this ingredient may aid in promoting lean mass and power output. However, more research is needed on LOLA’s effect on exercise performance.


Branch Chain mTOR Stimulation Blend:

  • L-Leucine (2 Grams)
  • L-Isoleucine
  • L-Valine

L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine combine to form what is commonly known as Branched Chain Amino Acids of BCAAs. The opinion on BCAAs being beneficial for exercise performance has been wavering opinion for many years. However, leucine and valine may be beneficial for muscle repair, and valine may also increase energy. While isoleucine may be important for muscle metabolism and hemoglobin production. (15,16,17,18)


PhosphoDrive Signaling Complex:

  • Creatine Monohydrate (1.3 grams)
  • Creatine Magna Power (magnesium creatine chelate)
  • Setria (l-glutathione reduced)

Super Pump features two versions of creatine: monohydrate and magnesium creatine chelate. Creatine monohydrate is a combination of 3 naturally occurring amino acids: L-arginine, Glycine, and L-methionine.  There is a ton of research on the benefits of creatine, including that it may be beneficial for ATP production and cell hydration. When a cell is more hydrated, it’s more anabolic, meaning there’s an increase in muscle protein synthesis. Currently, there is no definitive difference between creatine monohydrate and magnesium creatine chelate, but they are both effective in improving performance. (19,20)

Setria® is a reduced form of glutathione, sometimes referred to as GSH. This version of glutathione may be more bioavailable than other forms. Because of this, the effects, such as its antioxidant properties, may be enhanced. However, when L-citrulline is combined with setria, they may increase lean mass. (21,22)


CogniDrive Acceleration Matrix:

  • L-Tyrosine
  • Caffeine
  • Oxytropis Falcate Ext. (whole plant)
  • Peak ATP (adenosine 5′-triphosphate disodium)
  • Glucuronolactone

Now we have our final matrix in Super Pump! There is currently not enough research on Oxytropis falcate extract to indicate its use for a pre workout. Though some users indicate it can aid with focus and energy. However, research does indicate it may be beneficial for treating inflammation. (23)  

Peak ATP or adenosine 5′-triphosphate disodium may aid in increasing ATP, reducing muscle fatigue, and increasing athletic performance. (24)

Glucuronolactone is a sugar acid that is naturally occurring in the body. It is commonly used in energy drinks and pre workouts alike, but what it does isn’t very clear. Some studies suggest it may improve energy and alertness, but more research is needed to support this. (25)

Now we’re going to go through Super Pump Aggression, which doesn’t contain any blends; each ingredient is listed with its associated dosage.

Beta Alanine (3,200mg)

First up, we have beta alanine at 3.2 grams. Beta alanine is a non-essential amino acid that research indicates can enhance exercise performance. These effects are attributed to its ability to increase carnosine synthesis. Carnosine promotes the sensitivity of muscle fibers to calcium, which in return enhances muscle excitation-contraction. Overall aiding in power output. (26)


Agmatine Sulfate (1500mg)

Agmatine, a metabolite of L-arginine, acts similarly to beetroot extract as it contributes to nitrate and nitrite formation in the body, which in turn helps increase blood flow and has shown to have positive effects on performance. (27)


N-Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) (300mg)

N-Palmitoylethanolamide, or PEA, has several potential therapeutic uses, including pain and neurodegeneration. This may also improve cognitive performance, such as focus and attention. (28)


Theobromine (200mg)

Theobromine is an alkaloid of Theobroma cacao and serves medicinal purposes as a bronchodilator and vasodilator. Although it has practically no stimulatory effects on the central nervous system, as caffeine does, it has some stimulatory effects on smooth muscle, which contributes to its effects as a vasodilator. It also may act as a diuretic. (29)


Choline Bitartrate (100mg)

Choline Bitartrate has a ton of benefits; however, its most notably used in pre workouts and fat burners for its ability to aid in memory, focus, and other cognitive processes. (30)


DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol Bitartrate) (100mg)

Similarly to choline bitartrate, DMAE Bitartrate also may improve cognitive processes. Including focus, attention, and even mood-boosting effects. (31)


Black Pepper Extract (5mg)

Black Pepper extract, Bioperine or Piperine, is an alkaloid of Black Pepper. Many studies suggest piperine can enhance the absorption of drugs and natural compounds. (32)


Rauwolfia Vomitoria Extract (3mg)

Rauwolfia vomitoria contain the chemicals yohimbine and reserpine. Yohimbine is also a mild stimulant and thermogenic. You’ll get the benefits of a stimulant in addition to aiding in expelling water through sweat and burning more calories. (33)


Huperzia Serrata Extract (2mg)

Huperzine Serrata Leaf Extract is a common ingredient that is a natural antidepressant. However, it also may improve cognitive processes and has been used to help treat Alzheimer’s disease. (34,35)

Who Should Take It?

Although Super Pump has been around longer, we would say that Super Pump Aggression has a more traditional pre workout formula, emphasizing focus ingredients. So if you’re looking to try a new pre workout to get in the zone, we’d recommend this. However, if you’re looking for a pre workout that can provide an all-in-one formula, Super Pump may be the better option. 

With ingredients like BCAA’s and creatine, you’ll initiate recovery and improve cell hydration before leaving the gym. In Super Pump Aggression, ingredients like rauwolfia vomitoria and theobromine may contribute to some water weight loss. So if you’re looking to shred down Super Pump Aggression may help with that process. 

From an energy standpoint, we can’t be sure about the amount of caffeine in Super Pump as it’s not disclosed. However, there is 400 mg in Super Pump Aggression. That’s equivalent to about 4 cups of coffee and can really pack a punch if you’re not used to high stimulants. So if you’re sensitive to stimulants we’d recommend you assess your tolerance to either of these pre workouts before going for a full scoop.

Super Pump Aggression:

Do not use this product if you are using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or any other dietary supplement, prescription drug, or any over-the-counter drug containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, or other stimulants.

If you experience any adverse reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Discontinue use two weeks prior to surgery. Individuals who consume caffeine with this product or who are sensitive to caffeine may experience serious adverse health effects.
